The church of Santa Croce is situated at 2,045 metres, at the foot of the peak with the same name, in the Fanes - Sennes - Braies Nature Reserve. The sanctuary, which is treasured by the people of Val Badia, is a site of pilgrimage, especially during the summer months. On commission of the bishop "Konrad" of Bressanone the first chapel was built in 1484 which in the middle of the 17th century was enlarged and completed with a bell tower. In 1718 the refuge for the verger and a hospice for pilgrims was added. And it is in the characteristic "stuben" of this ancient hospice where you can lunch on tasty Laden specialties or try out an excellent "Kaiserschmarren". The entire setting is still very homely, where the host/verger and his wife still personally wait at the tables.
